Girl Who Does Not Age!

Today, i read in Newsweek about Brooke Greenberg. Brooke is very unique, she is 16 years old but has a body of an infant and a mind of a toddler. Scientist are very fascinated and are saying that her body is not growing as a whole unit. Brooke's loves to shop with her mother who pushes her around in the stroller. Brooke's mother says when she is asked the question of "how old is your daughter" she turns the years into months to avoid a long explanation. More research ois being done on Brooke and scientist hope to figure out whats going wrong with Brooke.
This is amazing, weird, and sad all at the same time. I could'nt imagine being Brookes parents and having to see my child not maturing as she get older.

Former Student Killed Coach

In Time Magazine i read an article about a former high school football player who killed his coach. This incident in Parkersburd, Iowa ( 80 miles northeast of Des Moines) on Wednesday morning around 8 am. Mark Becker (the student) shot Ed Thomas (the coach) shot the coach with a hand gun numerous times. Thomas was rushed to the near by hospital where he died. There were several students in the building when the shooting happened. No one else was harmed. Becker was charged with first degree murder.
This is a really sad story. My heart goes out to the families involved and students that witnessed this happening.

Bomb Kills 69 in Baghdad

Today, in Time magazine i read about a bomb that killed 69 in Shiite, Baghdad. There has been a recent rise in violence, which had made US troops pull back from bases. A series of blasts this weeks has killed more than 160 people and wounded about 135. This last bomb that killed 69 was hidden under vegetables on a cart and it exploded at seven pm. Investigators assumed that the terrorists timed it to explode at seven to maximise the casualties by striking at the time when people were out buying food for dinner.
I think this is really scary, the people in Baghdad never know if they are safe or not. I think its great that were over there helping them to eliminate some of the terrorism.

H1N1 in Scout Camp

Today, I read about an adult and a boy who caught the H1N1 virus. The child and adult were at a boy scout camp in southern Colorado. They were tested after they showed signs of having H1N1, and the results came back positve. Neither of the cases were life threatning. Both the child and adult both came from Plano, Texas and were among 29 other campers. They are undergoing treatment and will be sent home Saturday, June 20.
I think that its great we are learning more about the H1N1 sickness. This should be an awakening to the people around the world to keep up good health habits.

The Knox Controversy

Amanda Knox has been going through some pretty intense trials because she has been accused of murdering her former roommate Meridith Kercher. This incident took place in Italy where Knox has migrated from the U.S. Knox spent Friday June 12 in court trying to defend herself to the people judging her who decide if hers is the real truth. Knox goes to trial again this Saturday and will be questioned once more.
I think this is a big case that needs to be looked in to very closely. If Knox is innocent it would be horrible to send her to lifetime in jail. Im excited to follow this case and see what they find out!

Why Air France Went Down

One of possible reason flight 477 Air France went crashing down was because of the sensor tube called the Pilot was clogged. This device lets the pilots know how fast the plane is going. The plane was flying at a wrong speed in heavy weather condtions which may have casued it to crash. The messages sent to the crew were conflicting, they were not able to figure the speed of the plane and the autopilot was failing.
Its really sad that this had to happen and so many people lost their life in this tragedy, but I think it will help to prevent it from happening again. Hopefully something will be done so another accident doesnt happen.

Childrens Hospital Prom

In the Denver Post, I read about a prom that was put on for sick teenagers who were not able to make their prom. It was a dream for many of the patients. One particular story of a patient named Miles Person stood out the most. Person has brain cancer and his doctor says he has at most four months to live. He doesn't want to skydive or travel the world, the two things he wants is to spend time with his family,and his girlfriend who recovered from bone cancer. Person and his date danced the night away. Person said "it was a prom to live for".
This story really touched me. I thought it was great thing to give these kids a chance to go to a prom. Its a memory everyone should have.
